Sentiments on Finals

Finals in the springtime are the worst! There are just so many distractions: the weather outside is so beautiful, you haven't had a long break from classes since the summer before, and you have to plan for summer classes, work, internships, or traveling.

On top of all those things, you also have to move out of your apartment which involves not only packing, but also deep cleaning. I'm sure there are many other students who have had similar thoughts, "I really was much happier not knowing that there was moldy food behind my couch," which is inevitably followed by, "Maybe I can pretend like it wasn't there and let my roomie deal with it." Unfortunately, that strategy never seems to work as well as planned. Between the stress of deciding what to do with the things you accumulated over the semester (Why do text books have to be so large?!), and potential conflict with roomies over cleaning responsibilities, it seems like the bittersweetness of the situation manages to emerge nonetheless.

The year is over. Grades will be entered and it is time to move onto new things: experiences, adventures, and trials. Friends may be with you, but you also may part ways for a few months. Unless of course, it is the final year of finals, in which case life as you know it is over. A short walk across a stage, a handshake, a diploma, and you are expected to spread your wings and fly. Fortunately, the skills, knowledge, and friendships that have characterized the past four years will depart with you, as well, and those things will last a lifetime.
